Race History
1987: To celebrate Pittsville Centennial, the Pittsville Jaycees organized a 5 mile, one time race, The Pittsville Centennial Run.
Winners: Arnie Schraeder 25:07 and Sandy (Brew) Stargardt 33:11, with 151 finishers.
1988: Decided to rename it Heart and Sole race, Arnie Schraeder set a course record 23:39
1990: The two-mile race was added and 200 runners registered
1993: Big thunderstorm came through Pittsville but the race was still on.
1995: Arnie Schraeder set the 2 mile record 9:10
1996: Suzy Stanley sets the 5 mile record 30:05
1997: Registration tops 500 runners and the kids race was added
2003: 600 registered runners
2009: Chip timing added as 700 finish the race.
2011: A beautiful Sunday evening with 800 racers
2015: A record high of 900 registrants
2019: Alissa Niggemann runs 2 miles at 10:36. She almost won the race finishing 2nd overall
